Format of Exercises
In contrast to the good old times, when exercises were seminar-style, exercise classes will now be with exercise sheets.
Exercise sheets are given one week in advance and shall be solved by the students within this week, i.e. in advance to the exercise class! The solution is then discussed in the exercise class.
In additon, about 6 multiple choice tests about the lecture and the exercise topics are held roughly every week during the semester to appraise your performance. Questions normally concern the topics of the last week prior to the test.
The first exercise session will be used to discuss the details of the exercise proceedings with the supervisor.
How to obtain credit points or a "Schein" to be allowed to present the final exam:
For exceptions, what to do if you expect that you might fail, or for anything else: Ask the supervisor!
A guide to the Multiple Choice Tests (MCTs) can be found here.

This is a Required Course for the Master of Materials Science Study Course.
The lecture course Advanced Mat. B started in the summer term 2011 as part of the revised Master Study Course "Materials Science and Engineering". It is now given the second time.
Following the demands of the accrediting agency "ASIIN", two former individual study courses were united into one module with 4 hours of lecturing and 2 hours of exercises. The two former study courses were "Electronic Materials" (Prof. Föll) and "Ceramics and Glasses" (Prof. McCord). The contents are shown below.
The new lecture course "Advanced Materials B" differs in form and content.
The course will be taught in one term instead of two terms. "Advanced Materials B - part 1" (Prof. Föll) will be given in the first half of the term; "Advanced Materials B - part 2" (Prof. McCord) in the second half (see below for details).
There is one written examination in July 2013
Content: While the bulk of the lecture course is identical to that of the old course, there are also major changes. Here is a list of the topics covered together with a tentative time table:
See the list of books provided by the link above.
There is a detailed "Hyperscript" freely available in the Net. The lecture course closely follows this Hyperscript.
Informations about the use and the structure of Hyperscripts are provided in the link.
