Good Reasons to Study at TF
The Kiel University is the scientific center of Schleswig-Holstein. More than 26,000 young people study here, and around 4,000 scientists teach and conduct research in 185 degree programs and approximately 80 subjects.
The Faculty of Engineering is the youngest but not the smallest of all eight faculties. The faculty unites the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Materials Science under one roof. Due to its large number of projects and cooperations, it is a very dynamic faculty. Its own campus on the eastern bank offers everything necessary for pleasant studying, in addition to the Gaarden refectory and the library.
The Department of Materials Science is the smallest department in the faculty and yet one with the most collaborations at the university. Due to the interdisciplinary subject, the department also has a very mixed structure. The professors come from the fields of biology, chemistry, physics and economics as well as, of course, from materials science itself.
There are many good reasons to study materials science as well as industrial engineering in materials science here with us in Kiel.
- With us, you will study in small cohorts in a family environment. As a rule, you will start your first winter semester with no more than 50 fellow students. You are not a number, but quickly come into contact with others.
- With us, you will enjoy good contact with the professors and their staff - in the higher semesters, an average of 10 students are supervised by one professor.
- With us you study close to application and research, both in practice and in theory, as teaching is directly integrated into the working groups.
- Our research, and thus also our teaching, is oriented towards the important fields of the future, such as nanosystems technology, energy technology and medical technology. In this way, you already set the course during your studies for a challenging and fulfilling career in these fields.
A special feature of the Materials Science and Business Administration program in Kiel is its focus on technical content: You will study about two-thirds engineering and about one-third economics. Your knowledge of materials science is thus extensive enough to independently solve more complex technical problems. Thanks to your background in economics, you always keep an eye on the project plan.
