3D-Printing

Fused deposition modeling (FDM) for printing ABS, PLA, TPU and other FDM materials as well as (masked) stereolithography ((M)SLA) can be utitlized to fabricate unique and novel parts and apparatuses which are not manufacturable with conventional, subtractive manufacturing. Custom-made direct ink writing (DIW) setups combined with high power lasers can be used to print from soft materials like hydrogels to hard materials like ceramcis.

Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)

The atomic force microscope (AFM) is a user friendly tool to analyze and image surfaces. Being one of the scanning probe microcopies, AFM has applications in cell biology, materials and surface science, nanolithography and nanomanipulation.

Battery Technology

Batteries undergo more and more attraction. In order to fulfill the ongoing demands on fast charging, sustainabliity, resources, long life time, new materials need to be investigated being able to incorporate high numbers of lithium ions. One of these possible materials is silicon, which is well known from MEMS technology, but negleted for battery research. Additionally, research goes into the direction of novel materials and concepts for post-Li battery types, and metal-sulfur batteries.

Contact Angle Measurements and Water Jet Reflection

The characterization of special surface effects like super-hydrophobicity and bacterial viability of microorganisms can be done by water contact angle measurements. Considering the surface and interfacial energies one can determine polar and dispersive forces and thus characterize these surface effects.

Electro-Mechanical Characterization

The electrical properties in dependence of mechanical stress and strain can be characterized. This is especially interesting for very porous, conducting and semi-conducting samples.

Etching of Metal Surfaces

Special semiconductor etching knowledge is utilized to facilitate a novel nanoscale-surface sculpturing of everyday metals, which can lead to high strength metal-polymer Interfaces, corrosion reduces surfaces and the Generation of multifunctional Surface properties

FFT - Impedance Spectroscopy

In-situ Fast-Fourier Transform Impedance Spectroscopy (FFT-IS) measurements allow us to identify the most important and critical parameters inside electrochemical electrodes i.e. battery anodes and cathodes.

Raman Spectroscopy

By employing the Raman effect a solid can be characterized by its composition and structure.

Rheology and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis

Viscosity characterization of liquids, pastes and gels can be performed in dependence of time, shear rate, temperature and many other parameters. Cooling and heating can be done in various setups over a wiede temperature range. A linear motor setup can be used with the rheometer to perform tensile, compression and torsion tests and viscoelasticity can be examined by dynamic mechanical analysis.

Solar Cell Characterization

The CELLO (solar CELl LOcal characterization) utilizes laser absorption to determine the quality of a solar cell and make surface and bulk defects visible. Additionally, our luminescence setup allows to take NIR images of solar cells. Both electroluminescence (EL) and photoluminescence (PL) measurements can be performed.

Thin Film Deposition

The sputter deposition of various materials, including gold, aluminium, copper, iron and nickel is possible.
