The group for Functional Nanomaterials exists since 2007. We combine a strong materials science background with interdisciplinary research and collaborations to develop functional materials from basic research level up to industrial application and products. The group has published over 400 articles in renowned international journals, and his research has been cited over 10,000 times and more than 30 PhDs originate from the chair. The group combines its expertise via several subgroups, which are led by the subgroup leaders.
Current News:
Dr. Lena Saure has been awarded the prestigious Bertha-Benz Prize 2024 by the Daimler and Benz Foundation for her groundbreaking dissertation on aeromaterials. Her research, which has led to three patent applications, focuses on the development of ultralight, porous materials that efficiently convert light and electricity into thermal energy. These materials have significant potential applications in industries such as high-performance lighting, microfluidic pumps, and pneumatic actuators. The award, which includes a 10,000 Euro prize, recognizes outstanding contributions to engineering that benefit society.
