Application

Frequently asked questions On this page we have summarized some of the questions we are frequently asked about the requirements for a successful application and provided answers. Please check first whether your request can be answered in this way. If this is not the case, please contact the responsible academic advisor, our Service Center or our Examination Office.

Please note that this is an international degree program with applicants from Germany, the EU and non-European countries. Prospective students from the different countries sometimes have different questions. Therefore, do not be surprised if individual FAQs are not relevant to you personally.

Do I need a minimum final grade or CGPA in my Bachelor's degree for the Master's application?

In order to be admitted to the Master's degree program, you do not need to have a certain minimum grade or CGPA in your Bachelor's degree.

Further details

However, for admission to the Master's degree program, you must have a Bachelor's degree equivalent to the Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Information Engineering at Kiel Christian Albrechts University (CAU). If this is not the case, but there are only a few deviations, you can be admitted to the Master's degree program under certain conditions. In addition to the Master's degree modules and examinations you must then take examinations from the Bachelor's degree program of Kiel University. Whether you have a suitable degree and are therefore professionally qualified and what conditions you may have to fulfill will be decided by the reviewers during the application process.

Can I apply for the Master's degree program even if my Bachelor's degree certificate is not yet available?

Many applicants receive their Bachelor's certificate at a later date and thus after the application deadline. We will accept your application also without your Bachelor's degree certificate. In this case, please submit a current transcript of records.

Further details

If you are admitted to the program on the basis of a transcript of records, this is considered provisional admission. Please note the information on provisional Master's enrollment in the menu item "Start of Studies" and on the web pages of the Student Services (in German).

Do I have to have my documents notarised before I submit them?

For the assessment of professional suitability, you need to submit some documents such as your Bachelor's degree certificate. You can submit these documents without a certification. Please note that you need certified documents for enrolment at Kiel University.

In which language can I submit my documents for the assessment of my professional suitability?

We accept documents in German and English.

Which English language skills are required and which certificates are accepted?

English knowledge must be mandatory proofed by a GRE test. Our Institutional Code is: 7144.

Further details

It is mandatory to have a GRE test score. The result of a GRE cannot be substituted by any other test result or other evidence (native English speaker, completion of an English-language degree program, or similar).

Is knowledge of German important for participation in the degree program?

The degree program is completely taught in English. Knowledge of German can be helpful for your daily life, but is not required for your studies.

Further details

If you are interested, you can attend German courses at the Key Skills Center of Kiel University parallel to your studies. However, since the Master's degree program does not include non-technical modules, you cannot include them in your master's degree.

Please find information on the German language courses on the website of the Department German as a Foreign language.
