Studies Abroad

Studies abroadA study abroad - e.g. for one semester - can be pursued at almost any university. The organization is up to the students. However, it is interesting - i.e. easier and with financial support - to do this within the framework of an exchange program, e.g. Erasmus.
A basic source of information on studying abroad is the International Center of Kiel University with its websites, its information events and its personal counseling.
At TF, you find help and services around your international stay in section international.

Erasms

Erasmus is the student exchange program within the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. Among other things, it aims to support the exchange of students between universities in different countries. Detailed information can be found on the websites of the European Union on the Erasmus program and also on the websites of the International Center on Erasmus+ at CAU as well as the websites of the Faculty of Engineering on the topic of "International".

Organizing a study abroad via Erasmus is easier and less complicated than trying to do it via the application process without Erasmus. One of the reasons for this is that when studying abroad through the Erasmus program, a professor acts as a kind of intermediary. In addition, there are generally no tuition fees to pay at the host university and financial aid is available. However, this does not mean that the project is a breeze. Generally, a planning period of one year should be estimated if you want to study at a university abroad.

The International Center maintains an Excel file with the Erasmus partner universities of Kiel University. You can filter the entries contained therein according to the institutes of Kiel University and thus obtain information on the current partnerships of the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering. A program officer is named for each partnership. This is the person who keeps in touch with the partner university and is the contact person for this purpose. As a rule, the exchange should take place via a contact in the institute, but under certain circumstances students of the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering can also use partnerships of other institutes. The prerequisite for this is that free capacities are available.

For studies abroad in non-European countries, it can be checked whether funding is possible through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) or other organizations. Of course, the study can also be carried out independently of these organizations.

Tips

The most important thing when planning a study abroad is to start thinking about it in time. Only in this way can the necessary documents be prepared and submitted on time and without time pressure. Experience has shown that planning should begin one year before the start of the stay abroad. It is always worthwhile to visit the respective information events of the International Center of Kiel University! These are usually offered once per semester. Assistance is given on all kinds of topics and counseling appointments are arranged.

In addition, many students are willing to pass on information about their study abroad. The Departmental Student Body or the program officers of the Erasmus partnerships of the Institute can provide information on this.
