Information on courses and registrations for courses

Where do I get information on the courses offered for my degree programme?

In UnivIS - the Online Information System of Kiel University - you will find all courses that are offered at Kiel University. You can adjust the language selection in the upper right corner.

Among other things, the UnivIS portal provides information on lecturers, course times and rooms. You will also find information on whether registration is required for course participation.

You can access the course offers of the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Information Technolgy by selecting the menu item "Lecture Directory" in the field "Education (bottom left). Then select "Faculty of Engineering" on the next page and "Institute of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology" on the following page. This will take you to the overview of the institute's courses of study. You will then receive an overview of the degree programmes offered by the Institute. If you select one of the degree programmes, you will receive information about the courses offered for it.

You can find the courses offered in the summer semester 2020 for the Master's degree programme Electrical Engineering and Information Technology under this link to the UnivIS. When you click on the link you may be informed that it is out of date. If you get this message, ignore it and click on the "Try anyway" button at the bottom of the page.

How to register for courses?

When you check the courses you want to attend in the current semester in UnivIS (see first question in this section) you will get the information whether and in what form a registration for the courss is required.

In the current summer semester 2020 many courses will start with an online offer. In UnivIS the lecturers will announce how this online offer will look like and which platform they will use for this purpose. Many lecturers will probably use the online platform OpenOlat (see section also section "First steps after enrollment") for their courses. After you have clicked on the link and opend the online platform OpenOlat you can adjust the language selection in the upper right corner.

Currently you can only register for the current semester. The possibility to register for modules of the coming semester is only opened about six to eight weeks before the beginning of the next semester.

What is the last date for course registration? Are we allowed before deadline to attend the classes?

If registration is required for a course, please check the UnivIS entry (see first question in this section) of the respective module to find out by which date this registration is possible.

Especially for lab courses and seminars, the places are limited and are scheduled based on the number of registrants. Therefore, for lab courses and seminars it is almost impossible to register after the deadline.

For most lectures and exercises the number of places is not limited.  Nevertheless, if you register later, you will miss the start of the course and therefore may lose track.

I am admitted to the Master's degree programme under certain conditions and have to make up for some Bachelor’s modules. How do I catch up on these Bachelor’s modules?

Please contact the lecturer responsible for the respective Bachlor’s module after your enrollment in the Master's degree programme. Information on the lecturer responsible for the respective Bachelor’s module can be found in the module handbook for the Bachelor’s degree programme Electrical Engineering and Information Technology on the website of the Examination Office for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.

The responsible lecturer will tell you how to catch up on the contents of the Bachelor’s module. Most Bachelor’s modules are offered in German. In many cases, the lecturers will therefore provide you with literature lists and you will study on your own and prepare independently for the examination for the respective Bachelor’s module. Of course, the lecturers and their research assistants are available to answer any questions you may have about the module and the learning content.

While you register online for examinations for the Master’s modules of your degree programme, you register in written form for the examinations for the Bachelor’s modules. Online registration is not possible for you for these Bachelor’s examinations. You will find the form for the written registration of a Bachelor’s examination on the website of the Examination Office for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
