Chair of Power Electronics

Laboratory

The hardware laboratory of the chair offers 14 workplaces. For tests, there are 10 different inverter fed machines in the power range of 2 kW… 90 kW. Self built systems enable the emulation of different grid conditions and varying grid conditions.

For the real time control of the systems, there are 6 dSpace systems available. Further control systems are Tricore, Atmel, C166 and Xylinx-FPGA. The measurement equipment includes a Dewetron long time measurement system, several digital oscilloscopes, EMC measurement equipment (partial), power analyzer and torque measures.

Research

  • Our research is focused on the design of high efficient and reliable PWM-based power converter architectures (single-cell, multi-cell, multilevel), their modelling and control to exploit commercial as well as new power semiconductor devices with minimum over design.
We develop controllers for electric drives and we are particularly skilled in the integration of renewable energy systems into the electric grid.
