Access to the Master's degree program E&IE

BewerbungEnrolment in the international Master's degree program Electrical and Information Engineering (E&IE) is possible for both the winter semester and the summer semester.

Graduates of the Bachelor's degree program in Electrical and Information Engineering at Kiel University are admitted to the program without any further professional requirements. The Student Services of Kiel University informs you on its pages about the procedure of enrollment for graduates of Kiel University.

Graduates of other Bachelor's degree programs at Kiel University as well as graduates of other universities must prove their professional suitability at the time of enrolment by means of a certificate from the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering. To obtain this certificate, you submit the required documents listed below to the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering. Different deadlines and procedures apply to different groups of prospective students. However, the same documents must be submitted by all prospective students. If you have been certified as qualified, you can enroll in the Master's degree program. Please follow the instructions of the Student Services regarding the enrollment procedure for graduates of Kiel University and the enrollment procedure for graduates of other universities.

Procedure and deadlines for the assessment of professional suitability

The following applies to prospective students from outside Europe who still need to apply for a visa to study in Germany:

  • Submit the required documents (see below) via the online portal AppliSe to the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering. After you have entered your data and uploaded documents there, you will receive a pdf document by e-mail. To confirm your application, you must send us a signed printout of this document by e-mail (eeit@tf.uni-kiel.de) within the application deadline.
  • For admission to the summer semester 2022 you could submit your documents until 13 July 2021. The review of the documents has been completed.
  • For admission to the winter semester 2022/23, the online portal AppliSe will be open from 1 December 2021 to 15 January 2022 for uploading the documents. Please send us the signed printout via email by 15 January 2022.
  • For admission to the summer semester 2023 the online portal AppliSe will be open from 4 July 2022 to 1 August 2022 for uploading the documents. Please send us the signed printout via email by 1 August 2022.

Documents required for the assessment of professional suitability

The following documents are required for the assessment of professional suitability:

  • Your Bachelor's degree certificate or - if the degree certificate is not yet available - an official transcript of records. The respective document must contain the titles of the successfully completed modules and the grades achieved and should include information on the scope of the individual modules, for example in the form of credit points.
  • The module catalogue belonging to the your Bachelor's degree program or a comparable document showing the time frame, forms of teaching, teaching content and learning objectives of the individual modules. If your university does not provide a module catalogue, you can compile this information yourself. In this case, however, it must be clearly recognisable that your document is not an official one, but one you have created yourself.
  • Proof of English proficiency by GRE General Test score (https://www.ets.org/gre). The required minimum score in Verbal Reasoning is 145. It is mandatory to submit the result of a GRE General Test. For legal reasons, we are not allowed to accept any other proof. It is necessary that we receive your GRE test certificate from ETS. Our Institutional Code for this is: 7144.

    Further Details

We frequently receive the question whether we also accept, for example, the result of a TOEFL or an IELTS as proof of the required language skills. We are also asked whether it is sufficient to state that English is the mother tongue or whether the completion of an English-language degree program is sufficient as proof. This is not the case. According to the study qualification statutes of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität, the result of a GRE General Test must be submitted as proof of sufficient English language skills. For legal reasons, we cannot accept any other form of proof. If you do not submit a GRE General Test score, your application is incomplete and must be rejected by us for this reason.

  • Applications from China, Vietnam or Mongolia will only be accepted if accompanied by the certificate of the Academic Examination Board.
