Studying at the Faculty of Engineering

Kiel

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) and Master of Science (M.Sc) degrees

The Faculty of Engineering offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. The Bachelor’s degree programme leads to an independent degree qualifying for a professional career. A Master’s degree programme can only be taken up once a Bachelor’s degree programme has been completed to a very high standard. Usually lasting two years, the Master's degree programme can either be done directly after a Bachelor's degree programme or later on, after a few years of employment. It provides students with advanced training in professional fields and prepares them for academic careers. Doctoral degrees are possible under certain conditions.

Standard period of study

In Germany the standard period of study for a Bachelor’s degree programme is usually 6 semesters (= 3 years). Master’s degree programmes normally last 4 semesters (= 2 years). Individual degree programmes may deviate from this rule. Please check exact periods of study e.g. in the information sheets for the individual degree programmes.
