Commissioner for Family Affairs

Kiel University has been committed to a family-friendly and family-conscious personnel policy and infrastructure for several years. It was certified in 2002 by the "audit familiengerechte hochschule" (family-friendly university audit) of berufundfamilie gGmbH and was selected in 2016 as one of two universities to pilot the new "dialog procedure" and, after successful completion, is now entitled to bear the certificate for the audit familiengerechte hochschule for an indefinite period (permanent certificate).

Commissioners for Family Affairs act as an interface between the Family Service, which is located in the administration, and the faculties or clusters of excellence and make important contributions to the implementation and planning of family-relevant topics in the sense of a family-friendly university.

The duties of the Commissioner for Family Affairs include:

  • First point of contact for family-related questions from staff and students in the faculty
  • Survey and forwarding of faculty-specific problem areas concerning the compatibility of family and career/studies
  • Dissemination of the information offered by the Family Service in the faculty
  • Communication of compatibility topics in the Convention
  • Collaboration in the development and implementation of the goals agreed upon in the audit "family-friendly university
