April 2013: TFconnect2 (WLAN) goes offline and is replaced by eduroam
From April 22nd till April 26th 2013 we will change the faculty's network from TFconnect2 to eduroam.
February 2013: Changes in the external access to Sophos-updates
Please note: The changes have no effect to computers in the faculty's network
20th September 2012: Severe Sophos antivirus problems Due to an incorrect automatic update last night the Sophos antivirus installations on many Windows PCs and servers display severe problems. It seems as if Sophos detects itself as malware. Moreover, the local autoupdate mechanisms of some other software packages seem to be affected.
18th September 2012: Microsoft and BSI warn of using the Internet Explorer Microsoft and BSI (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik) warn of using the Internet Explorer in any version. You can obtain more information at heise.de
11th September 2012: Active Directory addressbook available You can add the faculty's Active Directory as an additional addressbook to your standalone email-client like Thunderbird or Outlook.
29th May 2012: VPN-service available Today we announce a new service available to TF-Account-owners: VPN. Using this service accessing restricted websites (e.g. publications research) or personal data from outside the faculty will be easier. Update: From July 16th you need a VPN-connection to establish a RDP-connection to our terminal servers Spiderman and Superman and all other computers providing RDP-connections from outside the faculty's network.
May 2012: Phishing mails Recently some phishing mails passed our spam and malware filter asking owners of a TF-account to enter their account data for their webmail account on a website.

Feb 2012: Firefox 10 and Thunderbird 10 on Terminalservers (update)
Now Firefox 10 and Thunderbird 10 are installed on our terminal servers Superman and Spiderman. The look has not changed since the last version (9.0.1).
Jan 2012: MSDNAA now called "DreamSpark"
Microsoft changed the name of their software program MSDNAA into "DreamSpark". The download abilities did not change. Find the Faculty´s DreamSpark webstore here and read how you get an account for it.
Oct 25 2011: LibreOffice replaces OpenOffice on the terminal servers
New installation on the terminal servers: LibreOffice is a further development of OpenOffice. It is for free and a full functional Office package. To change the user interface language: Read this.
Oct 2011: Firefox 5/6/7 on Terminalservers (update)
Now the new and quick Firefox 5/6/7 is installed on our terminal servers Superman and Spiderman. The look may be different to Firefox 3.x. To customize the look of the new Firefox read these instructions.
Mai 09 2011: Printquota check on Terminalservers
Your current print quota can now be checked out by starting a desktop icon "Check your printquota.RDP" on the terminalservers Superman and Spiderman. Simply give in your account data and follow the instructions.
April 1 2011: Printing for students now by prepay
Since today every printjob of students has to be prepaid. The previous free print quota of 100 pages per month is cancelled. More about how to prepay.
November 1 2010: Change in Wireless LAN
The access to the Wireless LAN (WLAN or Wi-Fi) will be changed. Therefore, all wireless devices (i.e. Notebooks) need to be reconfigured. Appropriate information how to reconfigure your devices can be found on our service website.
October 19 2010: New Password Policy
Initiated by the last phishing offences, the Faculty of Engineering changes it´s password policy. From now on, new passwords must fit higher security standards. Read more about how to change your password and which requirements it has to meet.
