  • 14.06.2016 Group Trip:
Closer to the edge in Büsum

On Tuesday, the 14th of June, our group started this year´s group trip day with a sumptuous joint breakfast and adequate amounts of strong coffee in the early morning. Our aim was the outdoor karting track on the other side of Schleswig-Holstein, Büsum. For some of us, it should be a totally new experience. For others, a happy karting revival day was coming up.
In two busses, our group of 17 people travelled along the green roads of the most northern German Provence escorted by clouds, sometimes thunder and enormous rainfalls. This made up exciting questions while driving through the changing surrounding: will we have our first joint karting experience already under challenging weather conditions? Is everyone able to handle the karts?
Having arrived just in time, some hearts started beating faster when creating their own drivers profiles, registering online for the race and getting a safety instruction by the track owner. When mumed with the mandatory balaclavas, wearing the helmets and with a last group picture, the race coordinator gave instructions regarding warm up, qualifying and race before everyone got the kart. Mother nature was favourably disposed towards us and so we could keep a dry head throughout the event. A last technical check and off we went for our 1st joint warm-up. Soon, the pitfalls of engineering and kart handling let the drivers´ field turn into small islands of karts with different velocities becoming faster and faster every round. Within the qualifying, the struggle against time finally lead to our ranking within the starting position of the race which would also be decided by our fastest time. The traffic light switched to green and the karts started into the race. The leading field soon separated from the main field including the fastest karts of the field, taking one round after another, having small battles one another or drifting close to the edge. After 30 minutes, the game was over – a thunderstorm finished our motorsports intentions with a lot of water on the track that turned the karts into kind of surfboards. Within the following victory ceremony after this questionabily race, our fast kart drivers Yannic won bronze and Ellen got second in loud protest. Sören, who finished the race with a small crash with our young HIWI Christine A. on his last meters took home his victory on his last show within the bnano group. Congrats to the winners, and to everyone else: let´s quote Coubertain.
The team dinner was set in the middle of Büsum, where we enjoyed being the king of seafood in the Fischkönig. With a last view behind the dune and over the horizons of the mud flats, our trip went back to Kiel, where we ended the day with some drinks and nice talks about all the world and his wife.
To the race day, to our group trip!

        Cheers, Hendrikje
